| Design Risk Management Contribution to Health and Safety. |
|
|
| Written by Stuart Summerhayes, Managing Director of Synergy CMC Ltd and a chartered civil engineer. He also runs courses on CDM awareness, risk assessment for designers and health and safety issues. The construction industry has one of the worse records for health and safety management. Despite regular drives from the Government's Health and Safety Executive (HSE), the number of deaths and injuries on site remain unacceptably high. The HSE have been targetting contractors for some years, but they are now turning their attentions to the designers who also have responsibility to ensure that their designs take account of health and safety, whether it is during the construction process or later at the maintenance stage. This new publication will give guidance to construction practitioners with a design responsibility on how to identify and manage health and safety risks, and on the design strategies to be followed. It will include a number of case studies, court cases and enquiries as examples. |
